Ward 76
In Spring 2026, I worked with Pai Productions on Ward 76. The piece was written by Sam and Shirley Jamil, rooted in Sam’s lived experience of growing up in hospitial.
Ward 76 is a play that follows three teenage patients during an unexpected power outage in a hospital. Told from the perspective of young people, the story explores friendship, vulnerability, resilience and identity during a time of uncertainty. While it acknowledges fear and difficulty, the play also highlights humour, connection and hope.
My role in the project was to develop resources in accessible language that could be accessed on the website. I created zine making resources such as prompts, a template and a step by step of how to make a zine. I also delivered sessions across Rochdale, providing young people the opportunity to explore their responses to the performance.
I loved working on this project. Growing up in and out of hospital can be an isolating experience; it was great to see how Sam and Shirley presented this experience and how people could support each other better.
